Homestead Exemptions and Discounts

Combat Disability Discount for Veterans Age 65 and Over: Disabled veterans age 65 and older who are partially or fully and permanently disabled have a combat disability and have been honorably discharged following their separation from the military. Click here to apply.

Veteran Disability Exemption: Veterans with a full and permanent service-related disability may be eligible for a full exemption from property tax. Veterans with a service-related disability of 10% or more may qualify for an additional $5,000 waiver.Palm-Beach-Property-Appraiser-Homestead-ExemptionVeterans with a complete and permanent service-related disability may be eligible for full ad valorem tax exemption. Veterans with a service-related disability of 10% or more may qualify for an additional $5,000 waiver. Submit a Veterans Administration VAFL form 27-125 or benefits letter 27/e.

Those with disabilities that are not related to their service may be eligible for an additional $500 waiver. Submit a Veterans Administration VAFL 27-444 form or a Certificate of Disability form from a Florida physician.

Exemption for a veteran’s surviving spouse:

  • The deceased veteran’s surviving spouse, who resided in Florida on January 1 and was eligible for the Disabled Veteran Exemption;
  • In the case of a deceased veteran, the surviving spouse must have died in the line of duty (no Florida residency required);
  • The surviving spouse of a veteran who died while on active duty from service-related causes (Florida residency is not required).

Exemption from Active Military Service: Service members of any branch of the United States Armed Forces, United States Coast Guard, and Florida National Guard deployed on active duty outside the continental United States, Alaska, or Florida. ‘Hawaii in the preceding calendar year supports Operation Enduring Freedom, beginning April 7, 1999, October 2001, or Operation New Dawn, beginning September 1, 2010. The amount of the exemption is equal to the taxable amount of the serviceman’s domicile on January 1 of the year in which the exemption is requested multiplied by the number of days the serviceman spent on a qualified mission during the above calendar year and divided by the number of days in that year.
